1st ECO Summit 2019 begins at UET Peshawar

The first ever two-day ECO Summit 2019 has commenced at UET Peshawar with a purpose to bring academia industry and government at one platform for introducing innovative green technologies and finding indigenous solutions for sustainable environment.
The summit was organized by the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) UET Peshawar in collaboration with National Bank of Pakistan (North Region), USPCASE-UET Peshawar, British Council and various leading organizations of Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar Prof Dr Iftikhar Hussain addressed the audience as chief guest. He said, climate change was showing significant impact globally on people’s livelihood and our ecosystems. The rapid change in climate has also put serious challenges to the national development of Pakistan with clear evidence that forestry, agriculture and water resources have been badly affected due to which people are more likely to suffer. He urged the stakeholders including Government, industry academia and civil society to come to a united forum and raise the scale of awareness on climate sensitization.
Later, the MoU signing ceremony was held between UET Peshawar and Fast Cables Company, a leading cable company of Pakistan. Imran Zahoor Regional Head (Fast Cables North) and Vice Chancellor signed the MoU. He said, The Fast Cables would support the needy students through Zakat scholarships; award Gold Medals to the top ranked students of Electrical Engineering Department and offer internships to the engineering students.
Saima Raheem, Regional Head National Bank of Pakistan (North) also spoke on the occasion and assured all support to UET Peshawar for introducing environment related initiatives. She said, NBP also planted 200000 plants under the “Clean and Green Pakistan drive”. She also planted a sapling at UET Peshawar during the plantation drive.
Registrar UET Peshawar Dr. Khizar Azam and Director Career Development Center Dr. Farid also spoke on the occasion. The Summit was supported by ASHRAE, the student Society of Mechanical Engineers which will hold a series of activities including engineering expo, roundtable on renewable energy, technical sessions, photography competitions and career counseling discussions.
