Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister and President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah Sunday congratulated President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan for his re-elected as Vice President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Talking to APP, Syed Aqil Shah said that it is a recognition of the Pakistan in the sports world that Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President Pakistan Olympic Association has been re-elected as the Vice President of Olympic Council of Asia(OCA) at the General Assembly of Olympic Council of Asia held in Bangkok on Sunday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association proud of that Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, Vice President OCA is one of the five zonal Vice Presidents of OCA and he has been elected unopposed for the South Asian zone which comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
It was under his dynamic leadership, that the Olympic Movement of Pakistan secured autonomy as is envisaged in the Olympic Charter, Aqil Shah added.
It is pertaining to mention that Syed Arif Hasan was very recently conferred with the highest award in Asia known as the OCA Merit Award for his contributions to the Olympic Movement in Asia, Syed Aqil Shah further added.
His unopposed election to the post of Vice President, for the fourth term, speaks volumes of the trust that the Asian Body has in him, he said, adding, “It also shows the confidence and trust reposed in him and reliability that he has amongst the South Asian nations.”
Syed Aqil Shah, who is also Vice President of the Pakistan Olympic Association and Chairman Sports Commission of Pakistan, said that the entire Olympic family of Pakistan are proud of his achievement, which is recognition of his meticulous services for the cause of the Olympic Movement in Pakistan.
“It is indeed a great honor for Pakistan that one of its nationals has been re-elected to this coveted post and we the Olympic family extended our heartfelt congratulations to Lt. Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association Khalid Mehmood and all Olympic family in Pakistan over his unopposed election as Vice President of Olympic Committee of Asia.
