Mobile phone service has been suspended in different cities as part of security measures. The Zil Jinnah and Shabih-e-Alam processions are being held in different parts of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to mark the occasion.
The Chehlum was mainly held peacefully without any major sabotage incident. Section 144 was imposed in different cities as part of security measures for the Chehlum. Under additional security measures, no one was allowed to stand on the rooftop of commercial and residential buildings situated along the routes of mourning processions. Hospitals near the procession routes were also put on alert to meet any emergency situation. Ambulances and firefighting vehicles were also deployed on the main route. Traffic Police also chalked out traffic plan to facilitate the citizens and road users.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Karim Khan conducted a visit of the whole city to inspect the security arrangements. He inspected various routes of processions and other important sites. The CCPO also inspected the main route of the city’s large procession and also saw the deployment of policemen.
The CCPO said that like previous years, a special security plan has also been devised for Peshawar for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). He said over 4,000 policemen have been deployed in the city for security of processions. He said monitoring of processions is also being held through security cameras.
Karim Khan said the procession routes have also been checked through sniffer dogs and Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) personnel. He said the participants of processions have been provided three-tier security. He said checking on the entry and exit routes of the city has also been enhanced.
During the sermons, the religious leaders during the Chehlum highlighted the significance of the day and sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
