China International Cooperation Centre established at KMU

To solve major scientific issues in the field of global health and jointly cultivate innovative talents with an international perspective and the capacity of global health governance, through friendly negotiations, Nanjing Medical University (NMU) China has established a collaboration center for global health at Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar.
This centre has been inaugurated in the light of an MOU signed by Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid Vice Chancellor KMU and Prof. Dr. Jianming Wang Dean School of public Health, NMU, says a press release.
Besides other Health Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Hisham Inamullah Khan, Pro VC KMU Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmad, Registrar KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Dean Public Health KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Officials of Health Deptt and faculty were also present at the occasion.
According to the MoU both parties will carry out academic exchange activities regularly, including holding academic workshops and seminars. Both universities will cooperate to apply for grants, implement researches, and jointly publish scientific papers.
KMU & NMU will select excellent faculties and provide them short-term training or continuing education opportunities at each other’s school.
The said MOU elaborated that both sister organizations will start the student exchange program, providing opportunities for students to be trained at each other’s school. Cooperation in social services, including health education, health promotion, personnel training, and policy support will also be the part of mutual cooperation.
The said agreement shall be valid for five years and takes effect since the date of signature of the agreement. A party who decides to withdraw should notice another party at least three months before the change happens. Any amendment to the agreement should be agreed by both parties.
Another major part of the said MOU is inauguration and establishment of the China International Cooperation Centre (CICC) for environment and human health overseas research base at KMU.
It is essential to mention here that CICC is the national level science and technology cooperation base, established at Dec 2016, focusing on international cooperation and research on environment and human health.
The CICC was initiated with five internationally well-known universities and institutions, including Harvard School of Public Health, Dartmouth College, Duke University, UCLA, and NIEHS. For a better development, the 13th Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020) for CICC was formulated and approved by the academic committee at April 21, 2017.
The plan emphasized the establishment of research branches in overseas countries, especially in the cooperative partners of Belt and Road Initiative, as one of the important objectives.
CICC oversea base, by coordinating with CICC headquarters and Center for Global Health of Nanjing Medical University, will serve as the bridge and frontier location for scientific researches cooperation, collaborative faculty exchange, and advanced information dissemination.
The administrative team of Oversea Bases will responsible for bridging the research scientists of both sides, assisting to establish cooperative relationships, apply joint research grants, and providing opportunities for graduate students co-culture, and faculties exchange.
