Corruption’s volume becomes unbounded, says NAB chief

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal has said that the volume of corruption in the country has reached to ‘out of the limit’ level.
The NAB chairman said this while talking to media persons, on Wednesday after an in-camera briefing to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
He said, “No power can pull the strings of the bureau.”
He said that stopping Nawaz Sharif from leaving the country was not his responsibility.”Nawaz Sharif case is in the court and bureau has nothing to do with it,” he added.
The chairman, while responding to a question regarding the missing persons, said the interior minister had never been powerful before, adding that the country’s powerful people should be questioned. He further said that were powerful who handed over the countrymen to the United States.
Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said that the NAB was not taking revenge, adding he will leave his position if discrimination or revenge has been proved against his actions.
He said that some inquiries have already been started wanted and notices have been issued to bring back some accused from the United Kingdom to Pakistan. He futher said that Steps had been taken to place Ali Jahangir Siddique name on the Exit Control List but court refrained NAB from futher proceedings, he added.
He said that PAC committee had expressed its confidence in the bureau. Adding that there is no power which can pull the strings of NAB, I will quit the institution if a string is pulled
While talking to media after the meeting, Chairman PAC Syed Khursheed Shah said NAB chairman gave comprehensive briefing and assured committee that bureau strings were not being pulled from other place while NAB will not take revenge from anyone.
Shah said NAB has recovered Rs 1500 million rupees in last five years while PAC recovered 320 billion rupees in this period.
