ISLAMABAD
Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed PTI to provide details about foreign funding to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within two weeks.
A single bench of IHC led by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani took up for hearing a petition filed by PTI seeking court’s orders for stopping ECP from initiating proceedings with reference to foreign funding details matter.
Anwar Mansoor advocate appeared on behalf of PTI AND Ahmad Hassan Shah advocate represented ECP Thursday in the court.
PTI counsel argued that we are ready to provide details of foreign funding as per election commission April 01, 2015 orders. But election commission is transgressing its powers.
Our stance is this that these details are not provided to some other party because election commission is neither court nor a tribunal. Therefore, election commission cannot issue orders for providing details of foreign funds to some other party.
Counsel for election commission said every political party is bound to inform election commission about the sources of its funds as per constitution. A Pakistani can also ask from election commission about the sources of funding of any political party.
The court directed election commission to take action in respect of foreign funding documents as per law besides ordering PTI to provide foreign funding details to ECP within two weeks.
The court also ordered that documents related to foreign funding sources of PTI be not given to Akbar S Babar or some other irrelevant party. The court will decide the case about foreign funding.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till October 10.
