Professor Abdul Waheed Khan, chairman Pashto department who was also chief guest at the event said that at least six scholars had earlier completed their research thesis on various aspects of Hamza Baba but Kalim Shinwari did his research on different topic.
Dr Nasrullah Jan Wazir, director Pashto academy, University of Peshawar announced that Kalim Shinwaris thesis would be given a book form and be published for spreading Sufi message of Hamza Baba.
The scholar Kalim Shinwari who is also grandson of the legendary Sufi Pashto poet Hamza Baba satisfactorily answered questions raised by the audience regarding Sufi thoughts and Baba`s poetry. It took him six years to complete his thesis on such an important aspect of Hamza Baba`s poetry.
While defending his doctorate thesis titled Research and critical analysis of mystical thoughts in Ameer Hamza Khan Shinwari`s poetry Kalim Shinwari pointed out that major portion of Hamza Baba`s poetry and prose was based on Sufi thoughts deeply seeped in humanism, peace and love. He said Hamza Baba was greatly influenced by Sufi ideas of Shaikh-i-Akbar Mohi-ud-Din Ibn-i-Arabi a great mystic, philosopher and poet born and lived in the 12th century.
He said Hamza Baba always considered Islam and Pashtunwali as two sides of a coin and negated aggressive nationalism in his writings. He said Hamza Baba wanted Pashtuns to maintain their true identity and uphold high social and moral values to safeguard humanity against all kinds of prejudices. He said, the concept of Ideal Pashtun in Baba`s wittings was in fact the embodiment of his Sufi thoughts.
Professor Ruhullah, supervisor of the said thesis remarked that Kalim Shinwari research would prove a crash course for students and teachers of Pashto literature. He said, the new research would help us resolve many deep and difficult issues in Hamza Baba`s poetry, fiction and prose.
Teaching Hamza Baba`s poetry replete with Sufi terms and ideas was always a challenge for even senior teachers of Pashto literature but now after this valuable research, both students, teachers and common readers will feel relax to understand idiosyncrasies in Baba`s poetry, he explained.
Professor Hanif Khalil expressed that though the topic of Sufi thoughts was a difficult research assignment but Kalim Shinwari completed it through his sheer hard work and also because he had been with Hamza Baba during his life time and had drawn direct inspiration from the great Sufi poet.
He said spreading Sufi thoughts was need of the hour to create tolerance and counter extremism.
