KP Govt to launch 10 mega projects for beautification, uplift of Peshawar

Khyber Pakthunkhwa Government has planned 10 mega projects for beautification and uplift of Peshawar with main focus on development of Warsak canals, establishment of entertainment city, and face-lifting of historical buildings that will completely change the overall look of the Walled City.
Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development,Shahram Khan Tarkai told APP on Thursday that several mega projects were planned in 100 days plan of PTI Govt for beautification and uplift of Peshawar and solid efforts would be made to complete it by 2023.
The network of three different Warsak Canals, which are passing through different populated areas, bazaars and roads with wastes and plastic materials, are in bad shape and presenting ugly look and requires complete overhauling.
The Minister said in 100 days plan, two plans is envisaged for uplift and beautification of these canals including construction of attractive grills along its length to ensure safety and enhance its overall look.
The other plan is up-gradation of the platforms already built upon these canals into recreational spots by installing healthy equipments for physical exercises, tracking walks, and sports activities.
Under beautification plan, he said, attention was being given for uplift of main squares by making plantations and flowers beds around it.
Tarkai said face-lifting of historical buildings on GT and Jamrud Roads is another project planned in the 100 days plan that would add beauty of Peshawar, adding selected historical buildings, schools, colleges, health units and police stations will go through process of face-lifting to refine their physical appearance.
He said Ring Road carried immense development potential and growth prospects besides attracting investment in future and its beautification is the top priority of PTI Govt, saying its location is ideal for making investment by encouraging restaurants, businesses centres, parks and sports areas.
Tarkai said conversion of dump/waste sites in city into small parks was another project planned in 100 days plan, adding Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has identified such dumping sites that would be converted into small parks to provide better recreational facilities to the ever growing population at their doorsteps.
As per plan, all dumped materials including solid wastes from these sites would be removed and evacuated to a safe location for their proper disposal. These sites will be converted into recreational parks, green belts and ornamental plants.
The Minister said due to Bus Rapid Transport (BRT0 project, number of flyovers and bridges has increased in Peshawar and a comprehensive plan has been chalked out to transform areas beneath the flyovers/bridges into green belts and pints its underside of flowers besides hanging flowers pots on it.
He said cricket is the most loving sports in Pakistan and KP Govt keeping in view of the overwhelming interest of youth, will establish a cricket academy at Hayatabad Peshawar that will produce future cricket stars for the country.
At least 16 new parks would be established in Hayatabad and one central park at Regi Model Town (RMT) that would enhance beauty and splendor of Peshawar and that roadside plantations would also be carried out inside roads and parks in Hayatabad.
He said an entertainment city will be developed at suitable land near Motorway interchange Nishta that provide all types of amusement and entertainment facilities including water sports, restaurants, fun lands, commercial activities etc.
Due to expansion of the university road and blending of service roads to allow the construction of BRT, a need to parking plazas has been emerged to discourage on street parking.
The Govt has chalked out an inclusive plan for construction of multiple parking plazas at different points to discourage roadside parking of vehicles besides ensure smooth flow of traffic.
A mega project for construction of service and link roads besides extension of Safe City Project to Regi Model Town is also included in the plan.
The Minister said Govt strongly believed in uniformed development in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and special uplift projects would also be launched in others districts for development and recreations activities for people.
He said Govt was according highest priorities to tourism and such projects would not only attract domestic and foreign tourists in large number in Khyber Pakthunkhwa but would make positive effects on people’s income and national kitty.
