Oil, gas companies asked to prefer locals for jobs

Adviser to Chief Minister on Energy and Electricity Himayatullah Khan Thursday directed the oil and gas exploration companies to give preference to local people while making recruitment for their fields.
He expressed these views during a meeting held at DC office Kohat after visiting the Mardankhel oil and gas field.
Secretary Energy and Power Saleem Khan, Additional secretary Muhammad Asif Khan, KPOGCL chief Muhammad Hanif, MPA Zahoor Shakir and Shah Faisal, Deputy Commissioner Shah Fahad, DGM Major® Aslam Khattak, senior geologist Kashif Ishaq, regional chief MOL company Fayyaz Khattak and representatice of SNGPL attended the meeting.
The adviser told the meeting that Kohat division contributing billions of rupees annually to the national kitty on account of oil and gas production from its reservoirs. Therefore the local populace should be benefited from their natural resources.
Deputy Commissioner said that Mardankhel oil and gas filed produced 3200 barrel oil and 38mfcd gas on daily basis.
The adviser was told that provincial government has released Rs 480 million for execution of gas supply projects in Hanug and Kohat districts besides taking solid steps for increasing gas pressure for Kohat division.
Secretary energy and power Saleem Khan said that skill development center would be set up for the local population enabling to get jobs in oil and gas exploration companies. He said massive volume of gas was wasted due to gas pilferage and measures being taken to overcome the issue.
The secretary also suggested upward revision of the land cost by the exploration companies that acquired it from local people.
The adviser said that road infrastructure usually gets damaged due to construction work by oil and gas companies therefore the exploration companies were responsible for bearing the expenses incurred on their repair.
