PhD male constable, female with LLB and two masters’ degrees

PESHAWAR: It was the dream of his father to see Mohammad Tahir become a doctor one day.The dream has materialized as Tahir has submitted his thesis for his PhD degree in Bio Informatics. A constable in the Forensic Science Laboratory, Tahir had to work hard for several years to accomplish all this. “I didn’t buy any shoes or clothes for the last 10 years due to spending on my education to make my father’s dream a reality,” Tahir noted.
Belonging to a poor family, Tahir had to join the police force to become its breadwinner. At the same time he continued his studies and is now about to complete his doctorate. Due to lack of resources, he used to go to college and school on his bicycle while at times he had to borrow money from friends to meet his requirements. It was even hard to arrange Rs 3,000 for admission in the MSc after his graduation.
Tahir was praised by everyone when the additional inspector general of police Mian Mohammad Asif introduced the constable at the Martyrs Day event on August 4. The force, however, is yet to give him any incentive or better posting as he is serving with other constables who have done matriculation or intermediate.
Recruited as a constable in 1998, Tahir is still in the same rank though he continued improving his educational qualification. “My father was very happy when I told him about my plans to study for the PhD. He is no more in this world to see his dream come true. I just want to tell the world that KP Police have in its ranks qualified cops who have done PhD, M Phil, M Sc and more,” remarked Tahir.
Like Tahir, the force has another qualified female constable, Rafia Qaseem Beg. She did her LLB as well as two masters’ degrees, including one in international relations. Besides, she is a talented singer. She sang and enthralled the audience during the show on the Martyrs’ Day in the Nishtar Hall Peshawar.
She took the job as challenge despite the fact that a suicide attack was carried out the day she appeared in test for recruitment as a constable. She remained in Matani, a place near Peshawar that was under attack by the militants for years, for a number of days when an operation was being carried out there against the militants.
Some of the constables of the force are even more talented. One if the police constables, Qazi, is a trained pilot who has also invented his own drone. Many wanted the KP government and inspector general of police to provide incentives and better postings to the highly qualified cops as they would be able to deliver on key positions as per their qualification and talent.
