The Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the collaboration of District Administration and District Government has kicked off preparations for holding the most awaited Jeep rally at snow-clad Loweri Top.
Considered as the most danger, amazing and thrilling jeep rally at the Loweri Top will be organized in February this year, Secretary Organizing Committee and District Sports and Youth Officer Mukhtiar Hussain told APP here.
“We have already kicked off preparations after receiving a green signal from General Officer Commanding Dir Upper Major General Khalid Saeed during his recent visit,” Syed Mukhtiar Hussain added. It is also expected that international drives would be testing their driving skills in the jeep rally and certainly the event would on one hand give ample opportunities to the participants to go through this historical pass besides introducing tourism through sports on the other.
He said that DG Sports KP Junaid Khan under the Prime Minister vision to ensure playing fields to the youth across KP had initiated four grounds comprising newly declared Tehsil Larjum, Barawal, Kalkot and Waray Tehsil.
Section-4 has been issued in Tehsil Largum, the newly declared Tehsil, Dir Upper while work on ground at Barawal continued and Awards have been issued in Kalkot and Waray Tehsil. He said the development of sports infrastructure is top most priorities. He said with the construction of such above grounds the total strength of playing grounds would be increased to five in Dir Upper including a multi-purpose Dir Sports Complex.
He said a total of 80 percent work completed on the construction of a modern day squash court and indoor badminton hall. The indoor badminton hall will have two courts and DG Sports Junaid Khan has already ordered purchasing of badminton mats (synthetic turf) worth Rs. 1 million, he added.
He said along with the Jeep rally, a mini-marathon has also planned wherein kids in different age would take part. He said the sports festival and culture activities this time would be organized at Inter-Union Council level after the snowing season over in March this year.
A total of 33 union councils in which players from all Tehsil comprising Kalkot, Waray, larjum, Barawal and Sheeringal across Dir Upper District would participate in games like cricket cricket, volleyball, football, karate, judo, taekwondo, tuf of war, badminton, table tennis, hockey, athletics, basketball
For the smooth sailing all sports and culture events we have already conducted meetings with the Principal of the various School and College, district administration and office-bearers of all the association working in Dir Upper.
Mukhtiaq Hussain, who has also charge of the Assistant Director Youth disclosed that a grand Youth Carnival would also be conducted wherein the talented youth could be provided due opportunities to exhibit their skills in 30 different fields part of the Youth Carnival.
He said Special Games for the persons with Disabilities would also be organized in collaboration with Friends of Paraplegics. Wheel Chair cricket, table tennis, wheel chair race would also be organized. He said as desired by DG Sports Junaid Khan they have conducted cricket trials in two different age categories Under-16 and Under-19 for Dir Upper Cricket Academy working under the aegis of Directorate of Sports KP.
Players of Inter-Union Council and Tehsil would be given due opportunities to come forward and play their positive role for prosperous Pakistan. Such talen, he said, would be trained and coach under qualified coaches wherein a request would also be made to the Directorate of Sports KP to send coaches in this connection.
About the Cultural activities poetic gathering, Musharra, traditional Games including Peto Gol Garam, Tantay, Lowari Jeep Rally would also be organized with the collaboration of Pakistan Army and Pak Wheel.
He disclosed that work are underway at different venues for the construction of playing field at Barawal, Larjum, Waray and Kalkot and construction of squash court in Dir Upper Sports Complex is in last stage and by April end. He said floodlights have already been installed and last year District Sports Officer organized scores of sporting and cultural activities during the night time. The events comprising football, cricket, athletic, basketball, volleyball and hockey held under the floodlight facilities.
He said this year like last year the events would be organized in befitting manners as desired by DG Sports Junaid Khan. He said District Nazim Sahibzada Faseehullah also extended full support so to attract the tourists besides involve the youth in healthy activities. When contacted Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud and District Nazim, Sahibzada Faseehullah said the aim of the event was to promote Kumrat valley as a tourist spot.
They said the festival will be offering variety entertainment events by the district government and district administration at the picturesque Kumrat Valley to promote tourism. They said all appropriate measures have been taken to facilitate the visiting players, local and foreign tourists.
The valley is accessible through under construction road and it takes 3 hours to reach as earlier there. It is about 80 kilometer road from Upper Dir to Kumrat is in drive able conditions. It takes half hour to reach Sheriangal from the main N-45 Dir-Chitral highway and another three hours to trek the remaining 55 kilometers.
