Baltistan University’s academic council held a historic meeting to discuss academic-related issues and approved new initiatives here on Thursday.
The meeting was held with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan in the chair.
Highlighting objectives of the council, the VC said that particular forum grant approval to academic proggrammes and activities of the university.
He said that the academic council which comprised 17 members gave final approval to the proposals and recommendations forwarded by departmental and faculty council.
He hoped the council would work out a vibrant and effective mechanism for ensuring knowledge and reach-based education in order to prepare the GB youth in line with market’s requirements.
All members of the council expressed their views and feedback for successfully resolving issues relating to academic and made courses relevant to the modern day’s needs.
The council approved department of tourism and hospitality and department of GB Study, adding currently the degrees could not be awarded in these two programmes, rather certificate courses would be undertaken under the newly approved disciplines.
He said that seminars, conferences and symposiums would be conducted to gather study materials for the courses under these programmes and effectively equip students with skills and knowledge while serving in practical field of tourism.
The council also proposed to grant departmental council status of departmental board of studies besides setting up an adhoc-based departmental council for tourism and GB Studies until induction of its regular faculty.
The council also approved constitution of various clubs and societies as part of co-curricular activities. Focal persons were also nominated to oversee progress on the recommendations of the council. A member of the council Dr Uzma Saleem also proposed constitution of a body for horticulture and environment.
