26 couples tie the knot in mass wedding ceremony in Landi Kotal

As many as 26 couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony organized by Shinwari Welfare Organization (SWO) at hujra (male guest house) of Maroof Khan, a renowned businessman in Mukhtar Khel village of Landi Kotal on Sunday.
Besides office bearers of the organization, tribal, relatives of the couples, people from different walks of life participated in the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, speakers including tehsil Chairman Haji Shah Khalid, Akhtar Ali Shinwari, Ilyas Shinwari and others said that there are many parents in our society who are unable to arrange marriages of their adult sons and daughters due to financial crises.
The concept of holding mass wedding ceremonies was need of time as it supported the poor segment of society financially and ensured timely marriages of adult boys and girls in a respectable way, they added.
They appealed to the philanthropists to follow the footprints of the Haji Aslam Shinwari, extend financial support to the SWO that arrange mass wedding ceremonies for those who could not afford expenses of their marriages.
Haji Aslam Shinwari, the organizer and head of the organization said that the welfare activity had been organized consecutively for the last four years and so far 118 couples have got married in the ceremony, organized by them.
Clothes for the couples and a package of necessary items including bed, solar system and other home appliances were also provided to each of the couple, he added.
He vowed that he along with his companions would organize the wellbeing activity yearly to benefit the poor ones.
A grand lunch program was also set up for the guests and relatives of the brides and grooms.
The newly- wed couples thanked the foundation for their help and said such weddings should be organized repeatedly in the years as many poor adults (male female) were waiting for their turn.
