KHANEWAL/LAHORE, (INP): As police and other law enforcement agencies have stepped up their operations against terrorists and their facilitators after the Lahore carnage, a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) team from Multan conducted a raid on the hideout of terrorists in Chak 98-10R of village Jahanian near Khanewal in the wee hours of Thursday and killed six terrorists of a banned outfit.
According to a CTD spokesperson, acting on an information of the presence of 10 terrorists, the personnel raided the site where a shootout killed six terrorists. CTD officials added that the deceased were affiliated with the banned terror group, Al-Ahrar. The said group took responsibility of suicide blast in Lahore in which at least 14 people, including senior police officers, were martyred.
At least four other terrorists managed to escape from the scene by taking advantage of the darkness.
A heavy cache of weapons, including grenades, guns and detonators were recovered during the operation. These included two hand grenades, two automatic rifles and two pistols and maps of sensitive installations from the dead terrorists.
The CTD personnel have shifted the bodies of the dead terrorists to District Hospital Khanewal for autopsy.
According to details, the officers have also detained as many as 40 suspicious people including eight Afghanis in a combing operation.
The sketch of suicide bomber who blew himself at Charing Cross of Mall Road claiming lives of 14 people has been prepared taking help from CCTV footage, eye witnesses and statements by those injured.
According to intelligence sources, the suicide bomber belonged to Jamat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Police officers on Thursday apprehended two accomplices of Lahore blast terrorist, one each from DI Khan and Lahore.
According to sources, the terror group entered Lahore from South Punjab. The suspects have been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Authorities have claimed to break the terror network after their arrests by saying that two of the three members of the terror group were now in the custody of LEAs.
In other operations in Punjab, eight suspected Afghan nationals were arrested in Narowal as they could not produce papers of identity.
At least nine suspects were taken into custody during a joint operation conducted by police and Elite Force in Chiniot.
According to details, police and Elite Force personnel conducted search operations in Chinab Nagar, City, Rajaua, Bhawana and Kandiwal areas and used biometric device for the identification of 154 persons on suspicion. The law enforcement agencies arrested six accused during the operation and also recovered arms from their possession.
