ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said he is waiting for PM Imran Khan statement on dual nationality matter and if Imran Khan supports induction of foreigners in cabinet then he will take the matter to the court.
“If PM Imran Khan supports the induction of any foreigner in the cabinet then I will resort to the court against it. Only Pakistani citizen can become member of parliament. This is Pakistani cabinet and people sitting therein are foreigners. It will be better if NAB is scrapped after Supreme Court decision”, he said this in an exclusive interview with a private TV channel here Wednesday.
He held the reality of NAB has been exposed to the people following the detailed decision of Supreme Court (SC) in Khawaja Saad Rafiq case. There is no room left for existence of NAB after apex court detailed verdict. It is better this institution should be scrapped.
He went on to say only Pakistani citizen can become member of parliament. Cabinet is Pakistan cabinet but members are citizens of some other country. If cabinet has to sit on table then it will have to abandon its dual nationality. If PM says dual nationality holder can sit on cabinet table then I will go to the court.
He remarked NAB chairman Javed Iqbal has remained judge of Supreme Court. Institutions run with morale authority. The institution remains no more if moral values are trampled.
He observed the reality of NAB Authority has been exposed before the people following the detailed verdict of SC.
He underlined meetings of parliament party take place. Political parties continue to remain engaged in talks with each other. We have fought elections against each other in the past. We all are on one page. No hazards are therein.
He said constitution says only one Pakistani citizen can become member of parliament. We have no objection over any one. Those who are citizens of one country are loyal to this country. If one has to sit on cabinet table then he will have to abandon the citizenship of other country.
He underscored Nawaz Sharif holds no dual nationality and he has gone abroad for treatment with the permission of government and court.
He added Shahbaz Sharif is opposition leader and he can go anywhere for his treatment.
He held Nawaz Sharif is not afraid of jails. Whosoever has to compete Nawaz Sharif, then his party is here.
The unemployment is rampant and the economy has been devastated due to ill-conceived policies of inept government, he added.
He stated government does not enjoy majority and if it has then it may complete its term.
