Campaign launched to increase women voters turn out, election commissioner

The provincial election commissioner has said that civil society plays a pivotal role in increasing women participation in the upcoming local body elections.
He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) election commission recognized the efforts of civil society for making the participation of women as candidates and in the electoral process. Speaking at a civil society program held to highlight the women’s role in election he said that the commission in collaboration with civil society and NADRA has launched a special campaign for registration of women in NADRA.
During the campaign, he said mobile registration vans are being provided in remote areas of certain districts of the province in order to get access to every family and every woman voter.
He also made an appeal to all women to register to the commission and play their due role in every election.
He also appealed to the civil society to play its role in increasing the turnout in the upcoming local body elections.
He said that according to the latest statistics, the total numbers of registered voters in KP are 19533964 out of which 1107663 are male voters and 8457201 are female voters.
The delegation on the occasion briefed the provincial election commissioner on the progress of the ongoing campaign and appreciated the role of the Gender Wing of the Election Commission.
The provincial commissioner assured the delegation of all possible support in this regard.
In connection with the women’s registration campaign, Paiman has got the project in Charsadda district, IRSP in Mardan district, URDO in Peshawar district, CDP in Bannu and Karwan in Upper Dir.
