Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin has decided to extend the last date for filing of income tax returns by 15 days till October 15, 2021.
The finance minister decided this after listening to the problems being faced by taxpayers in filing income tax returns, which were highlighted by a delegation of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry during a meeting on Thursday.
The KCCI delegation, while underscoring the need to modify the ineffective taxation policies, expressed deep concerns over the implementation of the Tax Laws (Third Amendment) Ordinance 2021 which, they feared, would start from Karachi as it has been observed from time to time that all such laws carrying penalties always start from Karachi and stay confined mostly to this city only.
The KCCI members called for amendments in the ineffective tax policies. The delegation suggested that the term “under-filers” should be replaced with “non-filers” in the Ordinance.
Later, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) extended the date for filing income tax returns for individuals and companies to October 15, 2021. Earlier, the FBR had said it would not extend the deadline for people seeking to file their income tax returns.
However, keeping in view the demand of the business community and the technical issues faced by tax filers due to server errors, the board has extended the last date of filing income tax returns.
Earlier, FBR officials had directed concerned commissioners to cooperate with filers seeking an extension. “People who want a 15-day relief will have to either file an application or apply online, “ the FBR said on Wednesday.
