Justice Umar Atta Bandial in line to be next CJP

Islamabad: Eight judges from the highest judiciary, including Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad will retire this year. According to details, Supreme Court’s Justice Umar Atta Bandial will take oath as next CJP on February 2, 2022. Five judges from Supreme Court of Pakistan and two from Lahore High Court are amongst the judges to retire this year. Age limitation for service continuity is 65 years for judges of the apex court of Pakistan, while 62 years for Lahore High Court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmad will retire on February 1, SC’s Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin on March 25, Justice Maqbool Baqir on April 4, Justice Mazhar Alam Mandokhail on July 13, while Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will retire on August 13.
