Sensitization Workshop on Digital Census held at UoP

Peshawar: A one-day awareness and sensitization workshop on the launching of Pakistan’s seventh census with the help of digital and information technology was held at University of Peshawar. The workshop held at Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Archive Auditorium was organized by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Federal Ministry of Planning, Development & Initiatives Islamabad in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) department of local government, elections & rural development and the University of Peshawar (UoP). Heads of departments, teachers, students of the UoP, Secretaries of Village and Neighborhood Councils and other concerned officers attended the seminar. Dr Muhammad Idrees, Vice Chancellor (VC), UoP was the special guest of the function. Inayatullah Wasim, Director PBS Rabia Awan, Director Information Peshawar Ghulam Hussain Ghazi and IT Experts highlighted various aspects of this important digital census of the country’s history.
A question and answer session was also held at the end of the event in which Village and Neighborhood Secretaries of the local government department, students and teachers of the Statistics department of the university made queries and updated on different issues of the new census that would be 1st of its kind digital census in the country.
Dr Muhammad Idrees, VC, UoP, appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on digital census and extended all possible cooperation on behalf of the UoP, especially the Department of Statistics, Journalism & Mass Communication and Computer Science, to ensure a successful digital census in Pakistan.
On this occasion Muhammad Sarwar Gondal Focal Person Digital Census PBS in his presentation briefed the participants in detail about the procedure of implementing digital census the 1st and unique in the country.
Dr Muhammad Idrees, Vice Chancellor, , Inayatullah Waseem, Special Secretary, KP Local Government, Sajid Gul, Secretary Coordination Unit LG and Ghulam Hussain Ghazi, Director Information were given shields by the Statistics Department for their assistance in launching the digital census.
