Traffic police challaned 54,876 people and recovered Rs1,29,87,600 in fines, which were deposited to the exchequer, an official said on Saturday.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Traffic Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat said that the traffic cops were roaming in the city to educate the public about traffic laws and they also fine those who break the traffic laws.
He said the traffic cops have been directed to ensure the implementation of the relevant laws, which would also reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
“Before taking punitive actions, our aim is to first educate the motorists, motorcyclists and truckers about traffic rules and laws through our education teams, which are active on the city roads daily,” he added.
