Six more government schools closed due to Covid-19 cases in KP

A number of health providers at the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) have tested positive for coronavirus as the cases of virus and hospitalization are rising in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Mohammad Asim, spokesperson, LRH Peshawar, confirmed that a number of hospital staff were tested positive. However, he did not share the exact figure of the Covid-19 infected staff at the hospital.
“Exact figures of affected employees cannot be shared at the moment because those symptomatic employees are rushing to our testing facility established at the emergency department,” he said.
However, we are collecting the data from all the departments to have a clear idea about those tested positive,” Asim shared.
He further said that some of the LRH employees were tested positive in recent days and after that SOPs have been fully implemented inside the hospital to avoid Covid-19 spread among the other patients and staff members.
According to the health departments report the province recorded five mortalities and 1446 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours. All five of the deceased belonged to Peshawar, it said. The provincial capital also recorded 50 percent of the total new cases.
The province’s fatalities due to the pandemic have reached 5986 while the number of active cases jumped to 5876. Of the infected persons 78 have recovered during the last 24 hours, the report added.
According to health department data released on Tuesday the province has so far recorded 304 Omicron cases and 176 of them were from Peshawar, the epicenter of the virus since its outbreak in the province in early 2020.
In KP, the Khyber Girls Medical College Peshawar and Gajju Khan Medical College and Swabi University in Swabi district were closed after their students and staff members tested positive for the virus.
In the day, the district administration closed four educational institutions in Mardan, including Government Higher Secondary School Kitty Garhi Katling,
Government Girls High School Lundkhor Takht Bhai, Government Girls High School Bakri Banda Mardan, City School Junior Campus, Government Girls High School Shamsi Road, and Government Girls Middle School Bijli Ghar as many students and staff members were tested positive for the virus.
The educational institutions have been closed on the recommendation of district administration and district health officers.
As Mardan, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera-Ismail Khan recorded 254, 35, 140, 115, 34, 22 Covid-19 cases respectively. Despite rising virus cases in the educational institutions, the Education Minister said that government schools would remain open.
Talking to Twitter, he said “No educational institution will be closed in KP. The teaching process will also continue. All private schools in the province must complete vaccination of children aged 12 and above asap. The vaccination campaign will begin from 1st Feb and continue till 15th Feb 2022”.
