PESHAWAR
The provincial government has decided to cancel registration of units manufacturing three-stroke auto rickshaws, motor-cabs, cargo loaders, and motorcycle rickshaws in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Fahad Ikram Qazi, director transport KP has said that the decision was taken in the light of Peshawar High Court directions and after the provincial cabinet approval.
The registration of the units involved in the manufacturing of vehicles including three-stroke auto rickshaws, motor-cabs, cargo loaders, and motorcycle rickshaws was revoked with immediate effect.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) transport department has notified the ban, he added.
Similarly, the department has also revoked the route permits of existing two and 4-stroke rickshaws and announced that no such permits will be issued in the future.
The General Secretary of Rickshaw union Izat Khan said that although the excise department has stopped registration of new rickshaws in the city, still they were entering in the city and operating on old registration numbers.
The drivers have been instructed to carry original registration and permit issued by the transport and Excise and Transport authorities. It was also decided to take action against the owners sections under 419 and 420 by operating more than one rickshaw on one registration number.
The directorate of Transport and Mass Transit KP has also written a letter to the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority regarding ban over manufacturing of all kinds of rickshaws.
