WB to provide $ 510mln for construction of four economic zones in MD: Abdul Karim

PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Industry and Commerce Abdul Karim Thursday said the World Bank would provide $ 510 million for the MD which would be spent on construction of four-lane Pak Afghan road and setting up of four industrial zones in the merged areas. Addressing a consultative meeting at Jirga Hall in Landi Kotal on “Accelerated Implementation Phase-II”, he said that an economic zone market would be set up at the border point between Pakistan and Afghanistan in which the people of both the countries would trade without visas. He said that 5500 youth in MD would be given vocational training through public-private partnership, adding that the tribal people would surely be rewarded for their sacrifices. APP
He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was spending development funds in consultation with the people so that the poor could come up and alleviate their problems.
He said for the first time in Pakistan interest free loans of Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 million are being given to poor people for construction of houses.
Abdul Karim said that investors are coming to Pakistan and investing here which was improving the exports while tax collection has also improved which is now being spent on welfare of people.
He said that 774 small industries are being set up on 60 hundred Kanals of land while industrial zone is also being established to improve trade with Central Asian states that would bring prosperity in tribal areas.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner Khyber Arshad Mansoor briefed the participants of the meeting about three-year performance and utilization of funds by different departments.
The meeting was attended by tribal elders, representatives of local government and welfare organisations and civil society.
