World Wildlife Day observed in KP

The World Wildlife Day was observed on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) like other parts of the world.
Every year March 3 is celebrated as World Wildlife Day to raise awareness about our planet’s flora and fauna.
KP Wildlife department celebrated ‘World Wildlife Day’ throughout the province under the theme “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”.
In this connection, various awareness activities were held in the 27 wildlife divisions of the province.
The participants emphasized in their awareness campaigns that the animals and plants have an intrinsic value and contribute to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and to sustainable development.
“The day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts,” they added.
It is pertinent to mention here that this year world Wildlife Day celebrated under the theme “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration” to draw attention to the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora, and to drive discussions towards imagining and implementing solutions to conserve them.
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was finalized on March 3 and the day has been celebrated as World Wildlife Day since 2014.
KP wildlife department also organized a number of activities in different zones of the province including essay and painting competitions, awareness walks and distribution of pamphlets among citizens to sensitize people about the importance of wildlife for ecological sound society.
