ECP issues notices to PM Imran Khan over election code violation

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday issued notices to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Mahmood Khan, Governor Shah Farman and three other Federal Ministers for violating the code of conduct for the second phase of the Local Government elections.
In separate notices, the ECP has also issued notices to KP Assembly lawmakers for election rules violations.
The ECP issued notices to PM Imran Khan, CM-KP Mahmood Khan, Governor Shah Farman, Federal Minister Murad Saeed, Pervaz Khattak, Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qurashi, Provincial Minister Anwar Zaib Khan, MPA Liaqat Khan, and Special Assistant to CM Malik Shafiullah Khan.
As per the notices issued by the district monitoring officer Lower Dir Hamidullah the aforementioned lawmakers of the National and Provincial Assemblies including Prime Minister Imran Khan, CM Mahmood Khan and Governor Shah Faramn have been asked to appear before the district monitoring officer in person or through their counsels along with statement on 14th March, 2022 and explain their positions.
It is pertinent to mention here that PM Imran Khan on Friday visited Lower Dire where he addressed a public gathering in connection with the second round of local body elections.
CM-KP Mahmood Khan, Governor Shah Farman, Federal Ministers including Shah Mahmood Quarshi, Asad Umar, and Murad Saeed also accompanied the PM and addressed the gathering in the district.
Additionally, the members of the KP cabinet including Malik Shafiullah Khan, Anwer Zaib Khan, and MPA Liaqat Khan also spoke on the occasion.
According to the notices issued by the ECP that “ it was conveyed to you, vide this letter of even number dated 11th March,2022, that Public Office holders including Prime Minister cannot participate in election campaigns or canvass in any local council or announce any developmental scheme after issuance of election schedule”.
