IHC moved for banning protests in D-chowk, Red zone

Petition has been filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking court’s orders to prevent political parties from holding public meetings in D-Chowk and red zone Islamabad.

The petition has been filed by advocate Asif Gujjar making secretary establishment division, interior secretary, chief commissioner, DC and IG Islamabad respondents.

The petitioner took the plea the court has allowed the political parties to stage protest and public meetings in parade ground while Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued orders for not staging protest on Mall road. No protest can be held in red zone. The lawyers cannot go to Supreme Court due to protest in D Chowk. D-chowk too is located in red zone. Closure of D-chowk leads to create problem in access to justice system.

The petitioner prayed the court to ban protest in Red zone besides ordering the respondents to ensure compliance of court’s orders.
