PPP alleges rigging in LG election in Orakzai district

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) rejected result of local government (LG) elections for the seat of Chairman for Lower Tehsil of tribal district Orakzai, terming the election process as rigged and demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct an impartial inquiry into the election.
While talking in a press conference here on Wednesday, provincial member of PPP Syed Akbar and Syed Basharat Hussain, the unsuccessful PPP candidate for the seat of Tehsil Chairman Lower Orakzai, along with other local leaders of the party, accused the district administration of Orakzai as well as Presiding Officers for being biased and partial in the election.
They added that Forms 17 and 18 were also not provided to the PPP polling agents. They alleged that their polling agents were not even allowed to go to the polling stations in some areas.
The PPP nominee for the position of Tehsil Chairman Lower Orakzai Syed Basharat Hussain alleged on the occasion that at some polling stations, polling was going on till midnight. He expressed his concern and said that the mandate of Pakistan People’s Party has been stolen during election in Lower Orakzai.
The local PPP leaders of the party rejected the results of the local body elections for the post of Tehsil Chairman in Lower Orakzai and demanded an impartial inquiry from the Election Commission of Pakistan. Syed Basharat Hussain threatened that if their grievances were not addressed, they have the right to protest
Its merit a mention here that Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party candidate Maulana Muhammad Tariq has got an overwhelming majority with 13559 votes in Lower Orakzai Tehsil and elected as Tehsil Chairman. He defeated Syed Basharat Hussain of PPP and the former Senator Malik Najmal Al-Hassan, a PTI nominee. According to result, Pakistan Peoples Party’s candidate Syed Basharat Hussain has got second position with 9029 votes while Malik Najmul Hassan, a PTI candidate & brother of PTI-MNA Jawad Hussain achieved only 7983 votes.
Interestingly, another unsuccessful candidate for the slot of Tehsil Chairman in Lower Orakzai and ticket holder of JUI-F, Din Badshah has also rejected the results and has made allegation of rigging in the LG elections few days ago in a press conference.
