ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has accorded approval to the appointment of Ashtar Ausaf as Attorney General (AG) of Pakistan. The president on the advice of Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif approved the appointment of Ashtar Ausaf as AG under clause 1 of article 100 of the constitution. PM Shahbaz Sharif had given approval to appoint Ashtar Ausaf as AG and had sent summary to the president Arif Alvi for approval. The office of AG had fallen vacant following the resignation of Khalid Javed Khan as AG. Ashtar Ausaf has remained AG during former PM Nawaz Sharif government He has served as special assistant of law and justice to the PM during 2015-16. He remained advocate general Punjab twice from 1998-99 and 2012-13. He has performed the duty of prosecutor general in the province during the period 2011-12. Online
