Gunmen kill police officer in Peshawar

Station House Officer (SHO) Shahpur Police Station Shakil Khan was martyred when unknown assailants opened fire on him near Peshawar’s Northern bypass on Thursday morning.
According to police, SHO Shakil Khan was on his way to work from home when another car came from behind and intercepted him.
Eye witnesses told media and police that two armed gunmen got out of the car and fired with a rifle and a 9mm pistol.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Muhammad Ijaz after visiting the scene claimed the attack on SHO Shahpure Police Station as an act of terrorism.
He said this was a continuation of attacks in which personnel of law enforcement agencies have been targeted in the city.
The police have started a search operation to arrest the attackers.
It is pertinent to mention here that terrorist attacks on law enforcement agencies and members of minority community have increased in the province. During the last two weeks it has been observed that three attacks were carried out by the terrorists groups in Peshawar.
Earlier a day an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer was shot dead and another officer injured by unknown attackers in the provincial capital.
This was the second attack targeting the law enforcement agencies officers in broad daylight in Peshawar in the last two days.
During the last week, terrorists attacked two members of the Sikh community and killed them. The incidents of terrorism have seen an unprecedented surged.
Later on, the funeral prayer of martyred SHO Shakil Khan was offered at Malik Saad Police Line Peshawar. A large number of police officers including IGP Moazam Jah Ansari attended the funeral prayer.
The IGP also laid a floral wreath on the martyr’s body.
Talking to media on this occasion IG-KP said that police have played fundamental role in the elimination of terrorists and miscreants across province and a number of operations have been conducted against terrorists, assured police and people that law and order situation would restored.
He said inquiry has been launched to dig-out real culprits involved in the heinous crime of targeting SHO Shahpure martyred Shakil Khan.
Following the incident, police also accessed to the CCTV footage of the gruesome incident in which an unidentified person fire on the SHO’s vehicle near Chakmani Bridge Peshawar and fled the scene.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on the vehicle and got back into their vehicle and easily escaped.
