A delegation led by Major (retd) Akhtar Nazir, Chairman Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) called on Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman at Governor House here on Tuesday.
The delegation apprised the Governor Punjab about the problems faced by the handloom carpet industry and the global exhibition of handmade carpets to be held in Pakistan in September.The delegation included group leader Latif Malik, vice chairman Ijaz-ur-Rehman, senior executive members Riaz Ahmed, Atiq-ur-Rehman, Saeed Khan, Amir Saeed Sheikh, Akbar Malik and Kamran Razi.
Chairman of the Association Major (Retd) Akhtar Nazir invited the Governor of Punjab to attend the closing ceremony of the World Exhibition as the Chief Guest and it was also requested that a dinner should be hosted in honor of the foreign buyers and delegates participating in the exhibition at the Governor House to give a positive impression about Pakistan and the government.
Major (retd) Akhtar Nazir also apprised the Governor of Punjab about the taxes imposed on partially finished raw materials coming through Afghanistan and said that if the government resolved their issues, the export of handmade carpets will rise again and that would help the country boosting its valuable foreign exchange.
Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman assured the delegation to talk to the federal government to resolve the issues and said that the government was well aware that the economy could not be developed without exports.
“The government is taking all possible steps to solve the problems of the export sector besides promoting exports. In this regard, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has recently announced reduction in duties and taxes on raw materials imported for export sectors,” the governor added.
He said that the international exhibition in Pakistan would effectively promote handmade carpets which would also boost exports and the government would extend its full support in this regard.
