Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed to approach Lahore High Court (LHC) on the matter of arrest of journalist Imran Riaz Khan.
Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah has remarked arrest has been made from Punjab. This does not come in the jurisdiction of this court.
The contempt of court plea against the arrest of journalist Imran Riaz came up for hearing before a single bench of IHC led by CJ Athar Minallah Wednesday.
The counsel for Imran Riaz Khan told the court Punjab Police arrested journalist Imran Riaz within the limits of Islamabad.
He requested the court to initiate proceedings against IG Punjab and DC Islamabad besides issuing the orders for immediate release of Imran Riaz.
The CJ IHC remarked report came on Tuesday night Imran Riaz has been arrested from Punjab.
The counsel for Imran Riaz told the court Imran Riaz told him on telephone he is at Islamabad Toll plaza. Police has filed report in Lahore High Court about registration of 17 cases against Imran Riaz. I have filed contempt of court plea in LHC. We were not told about FIR.
CJ IHC remarked every court has its own jurisdiction . LHC can see this matter. Imran Riaz Khan was arrested in Attock. This does not come in the jurisdiction of this court. This court can not investigate Punjab related case.
The counsel for Imran Riaz said this court had given clear orders that the journalist be not arrested. But the court’s orders have been breached.
CJ IHC remarked this court had talked of arrest from Islamabad. Now arrest has been made out of our jurisdiction. Islamabad police has not made arrest of Imran Riaz Khan while Punjab Police has made arrest. We are not giving any observation on this case. If LHC says the arrest has been made from Islamabad then that order be presented in this court.
The counsel for Imran Riaz told the court Islamabad police are saying arrest was made in Punjab. We are saying arrest has been made from Islamabad.
The court remarked this is in your interest that you should approach LHC.
