Crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles launched in Peshawar

The provincial department of Transport and Mass Transit has launched a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles plying on the roads of the provincial capital, said a handout.
The action was taken after the department concluded a five-day awareness campaign to control and prevent environmental pollution caused by emitting vehicles in Peshawar district.
The staff of vehicles emission testing stations (VETS) along with the police teams have started patrolling the different roads of Peshawar to check the smoke of the vehicles.
The statement said that those vehicles who caused pollution and did not meet standards would be fined as per the ruler’s regulations.
Manager and Facilities Emission Testing Stations Zubair Khan said that in the first phase, a five-day awareness campaign was conducted in Peshawar.
During the campaign, drivers and transporters of more than five thousand vehicles were informed about the crackdown and pollutant emissions.
They informed about the control and prevention of the environmental pollution caused by vehicle smoke and distributed pamphlets and brochures, besides, awareness seminars and workshops were also organized in educational institutions, he said.
“In the first phase, an operation has now been started against those vehicles which are not in accordance with the national environmental standards.
While in the second phase, the VETS staff and the police team will start operations against the vehicles that do not conform to the national environmental standards.
