Research activities at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are a reflection of national aspirations and priorities. Research on cotton crop and development of new seeds at university is a milestone in agricultural development.
This was expressed by the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob during a meeting with the delegation of Better Cotton Initiative Pakistan in his office. The Vice Chancellor said that a National Cotton Breeding Institute has been established in the University for Research on cotton crop and production of high yielding cotton seeds.
The institute has developed cotton varieties that have excellent performance in local climatic conditions, various diseases and other problems. The Vice Chancellor said that the focus on cotton research is to restore its importance in the country’s economy, especially the textile sector.
On this occasion, Director National Cotton Breeding Institute Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandesha briefed the members of the delegation regarding the newly discovered varieties during the field visit. Prof. Dr. Anjum Aqeel, Dr. Muhammad Naeem, Dr. Maqshoof Ahmed, Mr. Muhammad Latif and Mr. Abdul Rehman were present on this occasion.
