Floods damage important irrigation structures in KP, Arshad Ayub

PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Irrigation Arshad Ayub Khan has said that floods and heavy rains across the province have caused severe damage to irrigation’s infrastructure and a number of water channels and supply schemes have been damaged in some areas. He said that damages to the irrigation infrastructures will be restored on a priority basis to ensure access of required water to orchards depended on the irrigation system. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa famer community will not left alone and all steps would be ensure for supply of uninterrupted water to their agriculture lands, he Arshad Ayub said that a vast population of the province is directly or indirectly related to agriculture and irrigation system restoration would be made on war footing, adding that he was personally inspecting damages as well as rehabilitation process of irrigation infrastructure across the province. He expressed these views during a meeting regarding the flood damage and restoration of the affected properties of the Irrigation department. Secretary Irrigation Ayaz Khan, Additional Secretary Irrigation Nawaz Khan, Chief Engineer South Nasir Ghafoor Khan, Chief Engineer North Ishaq Khan, DG Small Dams Sahibzada Shabbir and other concerned officials including Chief Engineer merged area participated in the meeting. In the meeting, the provincial minister was briefed circle wise about the damages caused by the flood while a detailed briefing was given regarding their restoration and rehabilitation.

The Provincial Irrigation Minister said on this occasion that he personally visited the flood affected areas of Charsadda, Nowshera and Mansehra.

The purpose of these visits was to assess the damage. This series of visits will continue.
