ECP issues notices to Imran, CM-KP, ministers over code violations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan, provincial ministers and advisors of the provincial government for violating the code of conduct by holding a public rally in Peshawar.
The ECP issued notices to the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, KP CM Mahmood Khan, provincial ministers and advisors including Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Ishtiaq Urmar, Kamran Bangash, Anwar Zaib Khan, Muhammad Iqbal Wazir, Wazir Zada, Khaliq-ur-Rehman and Shaukat Ali Yousifzai for violating rules and regulations.
The show-cause notices were sent to them from the office of the district monitoring officer NA-31, Peshawar-V Shahab-ud-Din.
Earlier, the ECP wrote to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other officer holders of the provincial government not to violate the code of conduct for the by-elections as they were scheduled to address a public meeting in Peshawar district on September 6.
However, Imran Khan and other public office holders including ministers of KP not only participated in the Jalsa but addressed the public gathering in the district on Tuesday.
It is pertinent to mention here that ECP has scheduled by-election in Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda and Kurram district of KP on September, 25.
PTI chairman Imran Khan has submitted its nomination papers and is expected to contest the by-elections from all aforementioned constituencies of the province.
According to ECP rules and regulation for elections that public office-holders including president, PM, chairman, deputy chairman Senate, speaker, deputy speaker of any assembly, federal ministers, ministers of state, governors, chief ministers, provincial ministers and advisors to the prime minister, chief minister and mayors, chairmen, nazims, their deputies, would not participate in any manner whatsoever.
However, parliamentarians and legislators of provincial assemblies are allowed to participate in the election campaigns, subject to that they would strictly abide by the code of conduct, reads the revised code of conduct.
The former Prime Minister Imran Khan, CM-KP Mahmood Khan and other ministers and advisors have been ordered to appear before the district monitoring officer in person or through your counsels on 09-09-2022 at 10:00 am.
“Failure to appear before the undersigned on the aforementioned date, time and venue x-party action against you under the relevant provision of law,” ECP stated.
