Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sunday announced United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres had assured that they would be soon arranging a donors’ conference for the rehabilitation of the flood affected people of Pakistan.
The prime minister chaired a meeting via videolink to review relief and rehabilitation activities in the flood hit areas of the country.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers and the relevant authorities, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
During the meeting, the prime minister said that he had held important meetings with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other world leaders in which he apprised them of the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan and the government’s efforts at provision of relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees. He also mentioned his telephonic conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud. The prime minister said that he also apprised the world leadership of Pakistan’s viewpoint over the climatic changes and the destruction it brought upon the country.
They had expressed their deep sympathies and offered condolences over the losses in Pakistan and assured that they would fully support the country with sincerity, he added.
He said that during his meeting with Bill Gates, Chairman of Bill and Malenda Gates Foundation, they discussed seeking of help from World Food Programme for the supply of infants and children’s food in the flood affected areas. The prime minister expressed the confidence that with the international community’s help and with the efforts of the national institutions, they would soon be out of the difficulties. Relevant authorities of the National Flood Response Coordination Center gave a briefing to the prime minister about the relief and rehabilitation work in the flood affected areas.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Bilateral relations were damaged by Imran Khan’s anti-American statements.
In an interview with American News Agency, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the world countries that have the resources and capacity to come forward and contribute towards our rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
He said our people are suffering due to climate change induced disaster for which we are not sole responsible, therefore, world should come forward for doing justice with us. The Prime Minister said 33 million people in Pakistan have been directly impacted by this calamity and 1500 people have died including hundreds of children.
To a question on importing wheat from Russia, the Prime Minister said we might import over one million tons of wheat from Russia on right terms and conditions. Replying to a question on India, he said India is our neighbor forever and Pakistan wants to live like a peaceful neighbor with India.
He stressed that without resolving the Kashmir issue, we not be able to live in peace. The Prime Minister said we should learn that India and Pakistan can’t afford spend money on buying ammunition and defense equipment.
