ISLAMABAD
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani said Monday the much-hyped Transgender Rights Act 2018 was passed before he had become the Chairman of Upper House of Parliament.
Talking to reporters after attending a meeting of House’s Business Advisory Committee on Monday, the Chairman Senate said Senate of Pakistan would never pass any ‘un-Islamic’ law, adding that nothing in contrary to the Sharia will be carried out regarding the Transgender Act 2018.
Transgender Rights Act 2018 has recently become talk of the town as religious parties specifically and different sectors of society generally have raised objections over the law – implemented since 2018. This school of thought – mostly the right-wing, thinks that this law will allegedly legalize homosexuality and spread ‘obscenity’ in society.
Reacting to it, the Chairman Senate said religious scholars and the Islamic Ideology Council will be consulted if necessary – before finalizing the law. He said that no political touch should be given to the whole debate.
Replying a question on PML-N leader Ishaq Dar’s return to country, Sanjrani said he (Dar) will be visible to the whole nation when he arrives. So far, however, he said that everything was mere media speculations.
