Director Information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Noorul Hadi said on Tuesday that information department played a very key role in disseminating of information during the recent flash floods across the province, adding that through different medium the department kept informed affected masses about the government initiative for their rehabilitation and relief.
“The Department of Information and Public Relations has played a very important role in providing correct and timely information to the public flood. The department effectively utilized print and electronic media as well as digital media to inform people of the government’s steps for their welfare in times of natural calamity,” he added.
He expressed these views during the live program of Pakhtunkhwa Radio Swat on the occasion of the visit to the Regional Information Office Swat.
He maintained that the print and electronic media played an effective role not only in keeping the public informed about the government initiatives at all times but also through reporting from remote areas.
He also conveyed the difficulties to the relevant institutions, as a result of which effective rescue and relief measures were possible.
To a question, Mr Hadi added that human lives can be saved with correct and timely information during disasters.
The provincial information department has also taken several new measures for the access of correct information to the people, including supporting press clubs and journalists in the districts to further strengthen the prevailing procedures and journalistic affairs, newspaper industry.
The director of information said that reaching out to the less literate people in remote areas was among the major goals of the department adding that a network of FM radios has been formed to broadcast in local languages with informative programs underway in a better way in the province.
Earlier, on the occasion of Swat visit, Director Information Nurul Hadi was also briefed on the annual performance of Regional Information Swat.
