Atif Khan inaugurates inter varsity sports gala
PESHAWAR
The provincial minister for sports and youth affairs, science and Information Technology, Atif Khan on Thursday said that sports projects worth nearly Rs50 billion are underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter Varsity Sports Games’ inauguration ceremony Atif Khan said KP government offers great opportunities for youth to shine their skills in sports. Currently around Rs 50 billion worth of projects are underway in the province.
Minister of zakat and social welfare Anwar Zaib Khan, vice chancellors of various universities, government officials and a large number of athletes participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony on this occasion, provincial sports minister Atif Khan more than 2800 players including 1650 male and 1385 female, will participate in the event starting from today at Peshawar Sports Complex.
Atif Khan maintained that the male players would participate in volleyball, cricket and football while female players would take part in volleyball, cricket and badminton competitions.
The event has been arranged to promote sports activities and highlight the abilities of female students learning at different universities of the province, he added. The KP Inter Varsity Sports Games will continue till October 24.
The provincial minister appreciated the department sports for organizing the event for the students of varsities.
“This would be a great opportunity for the students to shine the name of the region, university, province and country,” he said.
He shared with the participants that the provincial sports department would very soon the inter-collegiate sports competitions.
There should be a desire to grow and prepare oneself for international level sports competitions. Female indoor gymnasiums are being built at the district level to provide facilities for sports activities to the athletes, in the province at.
On this occasion, the new official logo of the Directorate General of Sports and the Directorate of Youth Affairs was also unveiled.
