DC orders major crackdown on drug mafia in Peshawar

Adopting a zero-tolerance approach toward the drug pushers in the provincial capital, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shafiullah Khan on Monday directed the quarters concerned to launch a major crackdown on those selling drugs within the district.
He also directed to tightening the noose around any element trying to interfere with the anti-drug campaigns.
DC Peshawar Shafiullah Khan issued these instructions while chairing an important meeting regarding the crackdown on drug peddlers.
The officials of the Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Joint Director Anti-Narcotics Force Mohammad Ehsanullah, Deputy Director Airport Security Forces Arbab Khanan, Customs DC (Anti-Smuggling) Sajid Khan, Assistant Commissioner Rao Hashim, SP Cant Muhammad Azhar Khan, DSP Special Branch Fazal Karim, District Officer Social Welfare Noor Muhammad Khan and Assistant Director Nadra Saeedur Rehman and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The forum discussed in detail the preparations for launching a comprehensive drive in Peshawar against the people involved in drug selling.
The meeting decided to kick-start joint operations against drug dealers under the supervision of district administration Peshawar.
An awareness campaign was also conducted among the students through the master trainer in the institutions and to provide them with awareness about the harms of drugs.

Advertising campaigns on social media, print and electronic media for public awareness regarding the harms of drugs were also planned by the forum.

The forum concluded that a public awareness drive would be launched and all mediums including billboards on main roads of Peshawar and audio messages in BRT stations and buses.

Announcing the priority of the district administration for the rehabilitation of drug addicts before the crackdown on drug smugglers, Shafiullah Khan underscored the need of an effective crackdown to break the backbone of the supply chain of drug supply to various areas of Peshawar.
