Using clean water can reduce the health budget

Water and sanitation services company Mardan (WSSCM) organized an awareness seminar on water safety and sanitation services with the assistance of UNICEF to highlight the importance of clean, safe and healthy water and sanitation.
A large number of people from different walks of life participated in the event.
The main objective of the awareness seminar was to inform and sensitize the citizens about water borne diseases, and to highlight the importance of water safety, water conservation and sanitation.
Mayor Mardan City Council Himayatullah Mayar, Professor (Retd.) Dr. Fazal Qadir Chairman BOD WSSCM addressed the events on the role of stake holder in water safety. Professor Dr. Dilawar Farhan Shams, Chairman Environmental Sciences Department Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan delivered his speech on sanitation and domestic waste water treatment, Associate Professor Dr. Shams Ali Baig of (AWKUM) said that the water pipelines are gradually rusting and if bacteria found in the distribution lines of drinking water, it will lead towards spread of various water borne diseases therefore the corrective measures for water safety must be taken by the service providers and the community should also take care of water safety on domestic level.
Addressing the seminar, Mayor Mardan City Council Himayatullah Mayar said that the elected representatives should play their role to bridge the gap between the community and company so that public problems can be resolved in a better way.
The services provided by WSSCM to the citizens of Mardan are commendable.
Mayor Mardan stressed that all the stakeholders should play their proactive role in cleaning Mardan city and water conservation and safety.
Professor (Retd) Dr. Fazal Qadir chairman Board of Directors (WSSCM) briefed the Participants on the role of WSSCM regarding municipal services delivery in Mardan city.
He said that WSSCM is collecting garbage on door to door basis from 68% area of Mardan city, while safe drinking water is provided to five thousands consumers in urban Mardan.
UNICEF WASH Program Officer Muhammad Shoaib said that the institutional strengthening is very important to adhere international standards by the service providers in water safety and cleanliness.
He said that UNICEF will provide all kinds of support to ensure clean drinking water to the citizens.
WSSCM’s Chief Executive Officer Engineer Ameer Khan shed light on the company’s operations in detail and requested all the stakeholders to cooperate with WSSCM to bring more improvements in the service delivery for the citizens of Mardan.
The speakers said by using clean water we can reduce the budget of health. They said that every member of the society should play their role in cleaning the environment and water safety.
