Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali was informed on Monday that work is underway to replace the aging gas pipeline network in the provincial capital and after installation of new pipelines gas shortfall in Peshawar would be reduced. However, it will take more than three months from the authority to complete the new installation work.
The General Manager (GM) Sui Northern Gas PipeLine (SNGPL) Taj Ali Khan during the briefing informed Governor Gulam Ali that a project worth Rs3 billion is under consideration to replace and rehabilitate old and aging gas pipeline infrastructure in Peshawar, adding that new gas pipeline installation would control gas leakage and its sufficient availability to domestic consumers.
The replacement of pipelines and the installation of new gas pipelines will not only be started immediately but will also be completed in three months, he added.
Governor Gulam Ali has taken notice of the gas shortfall in Peshawar and summoned the SNGPL authorities to brief him about the issue.
The concerned authority on Monday held a meeting with the Governor KP and informed him about the issues of gas shortage and upcoming projects to overcome the shortfall.
During the briefing, Governor KP also telephoned Managing Director (MD) Sui Gas Ali Javed Hamdani and discussed the issue.
Haji Gulam said that availability of gas in winter must be ensured in Peshawar city and suburbs, adding that non-availability of gas and low pressure are a major concern of the public these days.
Sui-Gas officials informed Governor KP that the old gas pipeline network in Peshawar city and its suburbs would be replaced which would help to resolve gas shortages on a permanent basis.
