District admin to hold sports festival for drug addicts

The regional sports office in collaboration with district administration has decided to organize a sports festival for drug addicts in Peshawar.
According to a statement, on the directives of Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar, Shafiullah Khan the festival will be held at Tehmas Khan Football Stadium, Peshawar.
In the second phase of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s drug free Peshawar campaign, drug addicts were picked up from the streets, roads, garbage dumps and railway tracks and treated in rehabilitation centers. So far, 2600 persons have been brought to rehabilitation centers.
An official of district administration said that step being taken for social inclusion of drug addicts after rehabilitation, Drug Free Peshawar Sports Festival is also a part social cohesion and inclusion.
Drug Rehabilitation Centers in which teams from Keir Welfare Organization, Al Khidmat Foundation, Dr Khawaja Yunus Rehabilitation Center, Anjuman Social Welfare, Dost Foundation and Da Haq Awaz Rehabilitation Centers would take part in Volleyball, Badminton and Cricket.
Meanwhile, DC Shafiullah Khan, formally inaugurated the activities of the festival.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief Muhammad Imran, Regional Sports Officer Zakirullah, District Sports Officer Gul Rukh, ADC Dr Ikhtshamul Haq, AAC Sheba Gul, AAC Tania Shaheen were present on this occasion.
Shafiullah Khan said that sports were part of the drug free Peshawar campaign.
He said that in the first phase 1200 persons were treated and rehabilitated, more 1305 persons were currently being rehabilitated in different rehabilitation centers.
