‘Honary Tolana’, largest organization of artists associated with the field of music and singing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has expressed grave concern over alleged anomalies in Dubai Expo, organized by the Culture and Tourism Authority.
The community has demanded an impartial inquiry into wrongdoing and demanded a comprehensive policy on musicians welfare and arts promotion in the province.
Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, notable musicians Fazal Wahab Dard, Gul Akbar Rahi, Ustad Rahim Gul, Master Sahar Gul, Master Liaqat Ali, Wakil Ustad and others said that musicians of the province faced with severe financial crunches and demanded of the provincial government to announce for their survival.
They maintained that owing to government carelessness talented people associated with art and music have been spoiled while favoritism was carried out in selection for the event outside the country’s cultural and musical shows, especially in the recently held Dubai Expo .
KP should set aside separate funds for the community and a separate space should be established where they could perform and promote the art of music, they demanded.
“A separate place (Music Street) should be established officially where they can play their full role for the promotion of music without any threat,” Fazal Wahab Dard said.
He said that a mafia in the field has been given extra advantage in government and other major officials’ programs inside and outside the country.
This procedure should be abolished immediately and a committee should be formed which consists of senior experienced retired singers and musicians. For domestic programs selection will not be made without the approval of this committee at any official event.
They added that notable musicians and artists were sidelined in the Dubia Expo and talented artists were ignored in the culture shows in Dubia.
