Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) women legislators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have written a letter to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) seeking action Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazalur Reham for using abusive and offensive language against women associated with the party.
The women demanded the commission to take the issue up with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and initiate appropriate legal action against JUI-F for continuously using ‘derogatory remarks’ against women of PTI.
In a statement issued by the above mentioned letter has signatures of lawmakers including women parliamentary Caucus chairperson and president of PTI women’s wing Malakand region MPA Sumaira Shams, Madiha Nisar, Ayesha Bano, Ayesha Naeem, Sajda Hanif, Asia Saleh Khattak and others.
In the letter, the lawmakers have termed the remarks made by JUI-F chief as ‘ undemocratic’ and ‘un-Islamic’ alleged abusive words as against the norms of political parties. It is tantamount to discouraging women participation in the country’s politics and warned of severe action if repeated.
“Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chairman has been using foul language against PTI women supporters and leaders for the past few months,” the letter read.
Maulana Fazal during his press conferences targeted women associated with PTI which must be condemned and the commission should take appropriate action against such developments, it added.
“The lust for gaining power has made the JUI-F chief blind to Islamic values and high moral grounds of the society,”.
Women lawmakers regretted that the leader of a political party has used abusive words against women which is against the political norms and shows that JUI-F has lost tolerance against its political opponents and wanted only a man dominant political society which is against the constitution.
