Former Senior Vice Chairman of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) Ijazur Rehman has been appointed as the Chairperson of Carpet Training Institute (CTI) for two years.
In his statement, he said that the Carpet Training Institute is the backbone of the hand-woven carpet industry. “Efforts will be made to introduce new trends through the institute to strengthen our industry,” he added.
He said that instead of the traditional production of carpets, guidance will be given to market products with new colors and designs to leave the rival country behind in the race of competition. He further said people involved in the handloom industry should also take a look at the world trend and inform us of the proposals.
“Efforts are being made to introduce new designs in the Carpet Training Institute,” adding he said according to the changing trend in the world, attention should be paid to the research regarding the choice, design and colors of foreign buyers.
He further said that with the transformation of the handloom carpet industry by the neighboring rival country, it has been shifted to rural areas due to which the industry is playing a key role in exports. “Through various incentives, this industry has to be made attractive for skilled workers so that the shortage of skilled workers can be eliminated,” he added.
He said that the countries that export hand-made carpets are getting a lot of foreign exchange while our exports are shrinking day by day, so there is a need to work on a war footing to revive this industry.
