Peshawar: PTI court arrest drive fails to bear fruit

Police did not arrest single party worker or leader in Peshawar

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Jail Bharo Tehreek (court arrest drive) in the provincial capital on Thursday failed to bear fruit as police did not arrest any worker or leader of the party.
During the day long protest rallies in Peshawar, PTI workers and senior leadership returned peacefully as none of them got arrested.
A large number of PTI workers had enrolled their names for the court arrest and staged protests near Gul Bahar station.
On the third day of the drive, a large number of party workers assembled on GT Road in front of Gul Bahar police station.
The workers then proceeded towards Hashtnagri Chowk where they presented themselves for the arrest but no arrest was made.
Among the leaders who presented themselves for the arrest include PTI provincial president Pervez Khattak, former governor Shah Farman, former speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Mohammad Atif Khan, Ishtiaq Urmer, former MPAs Haji Faz Illahi, Arbab Waseem, Malak Wajid.
They chanted slogans against the incumbent government and demanded a date for the polling in the province.
The participants of the rally said that the court arrest drive has been launched and they are ready to present themselves for arrest but police did not arrest them and the protest of the PTI leaders and workers ended peacefully.
It is pertinent to mention here that PTI had set up a camp in Namak Mandi area of the provincial capital where workers of the party were asked to enroll their name for the court arrest.
The senior leadership of the party while addressing a news conference in the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) had also announced their schedule for the arrest in Peshawar on Thursday.
Besides others, Mohammad Atif Khan, Peshawar district president Ishtiaq Urmer, former governor Shah Farman, provincial president Pervaz Khattak, former nazim and naib nazim, former minister for health Taimur Saleem Jhagra, MAPs including Malik Wajid Ali Khan, Asif Khan, Fazal-e-Elahi, and former minister Kamran Bangash and Shahram Khan Tarakai participated in the court arrest drive in Peshawar and staged a protest demonstration outside the building of the central jail Peshawar.
However, police kept themselves refrain from their arrest and allowed the protesters to hold rallies and walks from one place to another.
Meanwhile, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan said that PTI’s court arrest drive in Peshawar was a flop show as none of the leader or worker was arrested contrary to the claims of party leaders of presenting themselves for the arrest.
They said that the PTI leadership escaped the arrest in Peshawar, adding that Jail Bharo Tehreek had failed as senior leaders did not want to get arrested and those who had enrolled for the arrest did not participate in the drive.
He said that on the one hand PTI chairman Imran Khan has launched a court arrest drive across the country on the other he has submitted applications for their bail before arrest.\
