Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rich province in energy resources, wherein precious treasures of hydropower production and oil & gas are prevailing. Efforts would be made for recovery of billions of rupees for province in terms of outstanding due as net hydel profit. Establishment of a coordination cell is incredible in the Department of Energy to highlight the problems faced with the federal institutions and policy matters.
Provincial Adviser on Energy and Finance Himayat ullah Khan expressed these views during a briefing in the Department of Energy. Special Secretary Energy Tashfeen Haider, Additional Secretaries Asif Khan, Abdul Huseeb and Dr. Qasim Ali Khan were present on this occasion.
Meanwhile, Adviser Himayat Khan, while being given a briefing by officials informed that the federal agency WAPDA owes 53 billion rupees to the province in term of net hydel profit, for which it has been informed in writing along with raising matters in several high-level forums, while 10 billion rupees has been paid in relation to the sale of hydroelectricity by PEDO due arrears.
In the meeting, Special Secretary Tashfeen Haider said that the Department of Energy is taking steps to run other issues including the appointment of the head of KPT&GC, the first Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid Company established in the province to self-manage the electricity transmission system in the province, including obtaining carbon credits.
Moreover, Provincial Adviser Himayat ullah had assured the officers of the department that he would try to resolve the issues of oil and gas royalty, water use charges and net hydel profit in the province in high-level forums.
