Deputy Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Internal Accountability Muhammad Sulaiman Thursday dispelled the impression about the use of sub-standard helmet and jacket collected from the scene wherein constables Ayaz and Qasim were martyred due to intensive firing.
Flanked by Director FSL, DIG Internal Accountability Muhammad Sulaiman clarified the position and said that the forensics of the helmet and jacket received from the crime scene has been done and proof them accordingly.
Other evidence found at the crime scene was analysed, Muhammad Sulaiman said, adding, Constable Qasim’s jacket was not even penetrated by the bullet. The news that our bullet proof jackets and helmets have lost their usefulness is wrong, said DIG Mohammad Sulaiman.
The equipment we have was bought ten years ago, he said, adding, procurement of equipment and supplies is being done for officers and personnel alike and such equipment are purchased from standard company, DIG Muhammad Sulaiman clarified.
He said items are brought to the field after checking as side injuries have been reported in the post-mortem of the martyred personnel rather an impression was created that the bullets crossed in between helmets and jackets.
He disclosed that 9mm, SMG and 30 Bore have been used in the incident. The bullet has passed through the fabric and not the plate, Director FSL Waqar Khan told media men during the press briefing. “There is no hole in Ayaz Shaheed’s jacket,” Director FSL Waqar Khan informed.
He said a total of eight shots have been fired while two bullets have touched the jacket. After the forensic report, such a wrong impression was actually based on speculation that substandard helmets and jackets are being used by the Police force, Muhammad Sulaiman said.
He said bulletproof jackets and helmets have not lost their usefulness but are still useful as such items were bought 8 to 10 years ago without warranty but now the new purchase that has been made has a guarantee of 3 to 5 years.
He said, there is a continuous process of checking bullet proof jackets and helmets and it continues, He said a total of 23 bullets have hit the officials martyred.
