Dragging army into politics not in national interest: DG ISPR

DG ISPR Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif has made it clear in unequivocal terms that dragging army into politics is not in national interest.

” dragging army into politics is not in national interest. It will create chaos. Our army is national army and it has no relevance with any specific political party, or view point or thinking. The army is apolitical and our relevance with the government is constitutional. We have informed Election Commission (EC) and Supreme Court (SC) about our stance regarding provision of army in general election. The details of senior military leadership meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) can not be opened as the meeting was not open too. Our resolve against the menace of terrorism is unwavering. If India resorts to any adventure, we will give jaw breaking response to it, he said in his first formal press conference here Tuesday.

He went on to say absurd and baseless propaganda is made on fake media accounts of ISPR.

A robust system of justice and accountability is in place in army, he remarked.

He avoided to give reply to the question regarding court martial of former army chief Gen (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and Gen (Retd) Faiz saying focus be placed only on ISPR press release.

Replying to a question about Kulbhushan Jadhav he said question in this regard be asked from foreign ministry. It is a sensitive matter.

He observed India committed border violation for 56 times during this year despite ceasefire agreement. We donot fear from the empty threats of India. We will give befitting reply to any aggression.

Pakistan army shot down 6 spy drones of India, he said adding Kashmir has never remained integral part of India. We will take the war to door step of India when need arises.

He pointed out 70 intelligence based operations are being conducted daily against terrorism in the country. The terrorists are trying to deteriorate situation in Balochistan and KP since few months .

He underlined Proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) link with anti Pakistan intelligence agencies has proved. Master minds of two major incidents of Karachi and KP have been arrested.

He further said 137 were martyred and 117 were injured in terrorism related incidents during 2023. Operations against terrorism are underway with full force. The terrorists have no relevance with Islam and Pakistan.

He indicated that 98 percent fencing work at Pak-Afghan border has been completed. 85 percent fencing work at Pakistan-Iran border has been completed. Fencing is being installed at 3141 kilometers on western borders.

He underscored we have to make Pakistan prosperous and stable. India levels allegations against Pakistan to divert attention from its problems. India will continue to level allegations.

He went on to say Pakistan-China relations bear historical significance. Both countries are having historical and old standing relations. During the army chief visit to China all the aspects will be discussed.

Armed forces and security institutions played valiant role in war on terror. The sacrifices rendered by KP police are not hidden from any one. We are bringing improvement in the capability of police.
